Miss Bria Turns One...Or Not!

I am so excited to be posting my first blog post! My goal is to post with every session. You might have to hold me to it! This first post is of my recent session with Miss Bria. We did our faux one-year-old cake smash this last Sunday after a nice long nap followed by lunch. This made for a very happy toddler! She did see the cake on the counter after waking up and signed/said more over and over, but we side tracked her with the promise of cake after lunch.

This was a great learning experience for me and a ton of fun! These are some of my favorite images of her since her birth. That being said, I can offer some suggestions when having your own cake smash session. First talk with with photographer to determine what your vision of the cake smash is: do you want a white backdrop? If so, you will want to make sure your cake isn't white, but isn't bitter either. Also, you will want to dress your munchkin in colors that really pop! What is your style when it comes to props- more or less busy? What kinds of products are you looking to purchase after the session? If you are interested in a 20x20 storyboard, which is white, I highly suggest using a color background during the photos. Finally, schedule your session during a time that works with your child's schedule. I had a super happy girl because she had a nap and lunch before reaching a sugar high ; ) As you can see I am totally countering some of the things I did in these pictures...again, a learning experience ; )

Having a consultation with your photographer is a great opportunity to answer some of these questions and really share your vision. This time also allows you to make sure your photographer is a match as well as establishing a great relationship that will carry on into the session making your child comfortable and the center of attention, which is what matters most! You can find Miss Bria's experience below...enjoy!
